At Kalihi Elementary School, the main student morning drop-off location and gateway into the learning spaces for all students, the Arrival Garden serves as a daily front lanai of which the character and design treatments should aspire to educate, evoke positivity and provide a sense of welcomeness, pride and harness school spirit. With that in mind, the Rotary Club of Hickam Pearl Harbor along with our community partners are planning to beautify this area. The project will include installing raised planters to manage the slope, along with planting flowers and shrubbery in the area for a more welcoming atmosphere. There will also be other small projects on the school grounds. Save the date! |

Dec 17, 2022 8:00 AM - 10:30 AM
This is a joint service project with the Rotary Club of Ala Moana. Current background check is required for this service project. Ala Moana Rotarians take 20-25 students (selected by the school) shopping for clothes and school supplies at Walmart. Parents/guardians drop the students off at the McDonald's at 8:00 AM. A school supervisor(s) will be there to meet them and check their name(s) on the list. The Rotarians will also be there to greet them and give them each an egg mcmuffin and orange juice. When the students are finished eating, the Rotarians accompany them down the block to WalMart for the shopping. Each student is allotted up to $100 to spend. If the items selected do not total $100, that's okay. We don't want to force the students to buy things they don't want or need. Each student may include one toy or game costing up to $20. This limit is enforced because the aim of the project is to provide clothes and school supplies for the student.
Usually, the shopping is finished between 10-10:30 AM. Some students, especially the younger ones, may take a little more time. When you are done shopping, you will exit with the student and hand over any change and the receipt to Lani Paet. Parents will pick up the children at Walmart. Rotarians will wait with the child until they are picked up. The school supervisor will also check when the child is picked up. |
