The 2019-20 Club Service Narrative by Board of Director and Charter Member, Allen Kamemoto.
We kicked off our 2019-2020 Rotary year with a 3-day Strategic Planning Retreat in May 2019.  Budget forecasting, event planning and fellowship were the main agenda for that weekend. We also performed succession planning to ensure continuity of projects and club growth.

Our sold-out Sunset Sail/Induction of Officers in July was a huge success in terms of attendance and funds raised for the Youth Advancement Program.

On August 1, 2019, The Dole Middle School Interact Club was established and sponsored by Rotary Clubs of Hickam Pearl Harbor and Metro Honolulu.  We received the Certificate of Organization on October 10, 2019.

RHPH board of directors and officers consistently meets every first Thursday of the month and general membership meets on the 2nd and 3rd Thursdays.

Social events are usually planned on the 4th Thursday.

This year we are proud to partner with RC Honolulu Sunset and other clubs in organizing the World Polio Rotaroke fundraising event on October 24, 2019.  We also did a multi-club service project called HOME at JABSOM where we collected and distributed toiletries and food items to benefit the homeless in the Kakaako area.  We had two fundraising events planned for this year but only one came into fruition-the Wine Bottling at Oeno.

The Roaring 20’s 3rd Anniversary Fundraising Dinner was unfortunately rescheduled to a later date due to the COVID 19 pandemic.

Our recruitment efforts have paid off and brought in four new members who joined RHPH ohana.  They have been to multiple service projects in the past and found our club to be the right fit for them. RHPH website has all the information about our club, calendar of events, ways to join and People of Action snapshots to make it appealing to prospective members.

Our club directory on Club Runner is updated regularly. Our inspiring and monthly motivational speakers are also a great retention tool on why members attend meetings regularly.  Believing that “Fellowship is why members stay “, our President hosted two Christmas parties at her home- one for the Presidents and ADG and another for the RHPH members and families.

Nothing stops RHPH members not even COVID19!  We were one of the very first clubs to initiate Zoom meetings.  Trendsetters that we are, we also made our meetings more exciting with a Bingo game and pau hana drinks.  We’ve also joined RC Honolulu Sunset and Ala Moana on their virtual meetings.

We take Rotary’s mantra of Service Above Self to heart that we have continued to feed the homeless at the Next Step Shelter albeit practicing social distancing.  We have also chosen to support Malama Meals in their efforts to feed the kupunas and keikis during this crisis and extended Stay at Home state order.

Sponsoring an Interact club and performing 12 service projects in less than a year with only 15 active members is a testament that what we lack in numbers we make up in projects!  Small but mighty club indeed!
