Volunteers Needed: Kahauiki Village

Kahauiki Village is Making a Difference for homeless familiess. Homelessness is one of Hawaii’s biggest problems. It is an enormous, multi-faceted problem and no “one size fits all” solution. The target is families with children to help the children and break the cycle now.

All Ohau Rotary Clubs are encouraged to participate in DG Nalani's project.  We need volunteers to help paint and clean the units. Phase 1 with 30 units need to be ready for occupancy by mid January.

Please note that this is an active construction site, and volunteers should follow these instructions:

  • Volunteers must be at least 18 years old
  • Wear jeans/long or short, covered shoes
  • Bring a container of drinking water for yourself

The Kahauiki Village still needs help with basic painting and house preparation. Volunteers are needed every Thursday (cleaning) and Saturday (painting), 8am to noon. The site is located at 2475 Nimitz Hwy.

Please contact Allen Kamemoto if you are able to volunteer for this Saturday, December 2nd.

Jingle and Mingle 2017
Attend the 2017 Jingle and Mingle toy drive to benefit kids that are in need during the holiday season on Thursday, November 30th, 2017 from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m at Wisp Restaurant and Lounge (2885 Kalakaua Ave, Honolulu, HI 96815). For more information, please contact Mylene Reyes.
For the last 5 years, John Strandberg of Hawaii Tech Support has hosted a toy drive to benefit kids that are in need during the holiday season. A group of business people that meet for no reason than to have a cocktail after work decided they wanted to do something for kids during the holidays. With only two weeks of planning the first Jingle and Mingle was held with only 20 people in attendance, they were able to collect 45 new toys! Over the ensuing years the event has expanded. Now it incorporates business networking with giving and the response has been phenomenal. The last two years there was an upward of 200 attendees with toy donations in the hundreds! Now, able to impact more children in a positive way. A door prize component has been added for the last couple of years and that has help to draw more attendees which helps more needy local kids. This year's non-profit partner is HUGS Hawaii.

Partnering with Wisp Restaurant and Lounge as the venue sponsor and Rotary Means Business as a marketing sponsor, they are hoping to draw an even larger attendance, therefore more toys. The toy drive is to be held on Thursday November 30, 2017 at 5pm till 9pm. It is a free to attend event. No host drinks and special food menu will be available that evening.
