HPH Members,

It seems like just yesterday that we started on the journey to build the newest Rotary Club in Hawaii.  Through much hard work, we accomplished the task in just a few months.  As we start the new Rotary year, I liked to use my first President's Message to outline the important next steps we need to take this coming year.  As I stated early on in our development, we will use the first year to build the basic foundation which a Rotary Club is built upon.

The first piece of the foundation is MEMBERSHIP.  A strong club must have strong members who are willing to participate in the weekly meetings and service projects.  After all, a club without members is not a club.  We need to continue to grow as well and I ask all of our members to be recruiters.  However, we need to be judicious and select the right members for our club.  Our club has great synergy amongst the current members and we need to continue this.

A second piece of the foundation is COMMUNICATIONS.  Every one of our members needs to understand and use the different ways we have to communicate and keep everyone informed.  I challenge everyone to learn and use our communication systems like Club Runner and My Rotary.

Being EDUCATED in how Rotary operates is crucial for the foundation.  Many of our charter and new members are experiencing Rotary for the first time.  It is important that we all learn as much about Rotary as we can.  Like any established organization, there are policies and procedures which we all need to become familiar with to have a successful club.

Finally, establishing sound ADMINISTRATIVE practices is critical over the next year.  With any new organization, this means lots of work ranging from setting up accounts, developing a budget, establishing meeting places, etc...  Every one of our members need to help with this effort.

I know I am excited about entering into our first Rotary year together and I hope you are as well.  Together we will build a strong foundation which will serve the club well for years to come.

Our regularly scheduled meeting is this Thursday @ 1800. We continue to meet at R&M Reyes Enterprise, LLC in Halawa (99-899 Iwaena St #111, Aiea, HI 96701). Parking is available in the complex in front of R&M Reyes Enterprise, along with ample street parking.

As we have done in the past and until we find a permanent home for our weekly meetings, we encourage you to bring a dish to share (potluck style) and your favorite drink.

Don't forget to invite a friend!

Mahalo,
