Volunteers NeededJoin the Rotary Club of Hickam Pearl Harbor as we serve our friends at the Keauhou Shelter. Setup begins at 6:00pm. About Keauhou ShelterKeauhou (Keauhou means “a new beginning”) is located at 1020 Isenberg St in Honolulu (Map). We accept walk-ins and referrals based on availability. Walk-ins can come as early as 8:30 a.m. to fill out an intake pre-application. If space is available, staff will schedule a new time for applicant to return to complete the admission paperwork (no later than 4 p.m.). Keauhou provides emergency housing using the Housing First model. This model allows us to enroll clients straight from the street and assist them once they are housed. Keauhou holds 75 clients in a dormitory-type arrangement with shared bathrooms and showers, shared kitchen, and laundry spaces. Services include:

Join Hawaii Rotary District 5000 Clubs as we honor our nation's Veterans at US VETS. We will be collecting items for hygiene kits and non-parishable foods. Please use the link to sign up to complete a hygiene kit. We need volunteers! We are in the final planning phase of the joint Hawaii Rotary Community Service Project on November 11 (Veteran's Day) at the US VETS Center located at 91-1039 Shangrila St. (Kapolei). Arrival & Setup: 9:30am Setup the foot and water table, accept hygiene kit bags, and non-perishable food donations. Program & Lunch: 10:00am-1:00pm After lunch (around 12:30), US VETS Representatives will give our Rotary members a tour of the dorms and tiny home community. |

Wahiawa Botanical Garden

A Rotarian for 12 years, Lasar Hurd-McCabe has had a varied career. Some highlights include a recent organizing business of 8 years, work at a Japanese bakery, a granola factory, and now as a botanical garden aide. Volunteering in the succulent garden of Foster Botanical Gardens since 2017, Lasar has taught lei classes, supported the garden festivals, and worked on crafts with friends she made there. Now a part-time employee, Lasar staffs the Wahiawa Botanical Garden one day per week. She prepares or teaches classes including: succulent wreaths, pressed flowers, dried botanical arrangements, and more. Lasar is crafty and loves plants, though she has murdered many of them. Lasar's favorite people in the world are her husband, Patrick, her children Paul, Peter, and Olivia, her parents, and her sister. Rotarians and volunteers are her 2nd favorite. |

We will run outdoor games for all the students as part of the Turkey Trot.
Be there at 9:30am, we will have 2 sessions w/ the kids, before lunch and after. If you can't make both please let us know, and start at 9:30 or stay til 1:30.
We're bringing together 200 students from preschool through fifth grade. This exciting field day will feature six activity stations, engaging students in fun and interactive challenges. We will pair up with volunteers from the Dynamic Healing Center, and a pizza lunch is included. Join us!

Help Dole Middle School collect toys, toiletries, food and clothing from a long convoy of cool cars! 9 car clubs will be stopping at Dole Middle School to drop their donations before heading to their rally. We will unload donations, sort, etc. and will benefit the students' families. An easy pop-in and pop-out event, any of your time will be appreciated.

Collection windows for food and money: Dec 9 meeting, Dec 16 Christmas Lights Walk, or drop at Emilie & Dennis' house If you'd like to donate goods: - Cans of any meat, chili, ravioli, soup - Cans of vegetables, fruit - Pasta, rice, mashed potatoes - Cookies, candy If you'd like to go big for a $25 10-lb ham, or just a straight donation of yr choice, please pay at the meeting. Thanks in advance for your support, it will mean a lot, especially with food assistance programs set to expire soon. Big Blue Fitness - New Member Vocational Speaker, Lennon Akasaka

Lennon Akasaka was born in Japan and moved to the United States in the 6th grade. In 2019, he graduated from the University of Hawaii at Manoa with a bachelor's degree in kinesiology and rehabilitation science. Lennon is also certified as a personal trainer by the American College of Sports Medicine and has been performing as a trainer for 10 years. Using his knowledge and experience, Lennon has helped many people overcome their difficulties and achieve fitness goals they never thought possible. Lennon currently owns Big Blue Fitness Hawaii and hosts a group exercise class called "Mobility and Flexibility" at Kahala Nui and Hawaii Kai Retirement Community, and it is one of the most popular classes he teaches. At Big Blue Fitness Hawaii, they offer a mobile training service that brings fitness directly to the customer, no gym membership required. They work with clients of all ages and abilities, helping them to build strength, improve mobility, and live healthier, more active lives. Mental Health Matters

Kathleen Rhoads Merriam moved to Hawaii in 2003 from working at Fountain House, NYC, the largest psychiatric rehabilitation program for adults with mental illness. The Department of Health hired her to strengthen and develop Clubhouse Day programs and since then, she has held a variety of positions with the Adult Mental Health Division. Kathleen joined Rotary as soon as she moved to Hawaii and met her husband and former district governor, Mark. She is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and a Certified Substance Abuse Counselor; she has worked in mental health services over 35 years. Kathleen’s perspective comes from being a consumer, family member, provider, and administrator in mental health. She believes her own experience in various mental health systems as someone living with Bipolar illness has provided her with the greatest wisdom. Kathleen is the recipient of the Mental Health Outstanding Government Leader Award and the Department of Health Sustained Superior Performance Award. Additionally, she is the Past President of the Rotary Club of Metropolitan Honolulu and a current member of the Kaneohe Rotary Club. |
