Brian Kajiyama, a native of Kailua on Oahu, now teaches at the University of Hawai'i of Manoa, as an instructor for the Department of Special Education. Brian has cerebral palsy and graduated from University of Hawai’i-Manoa with a bachelor and master's degree. He also worked under head football coach June Jones, who named Brian a graduate assistant coach in 2007. During his tenure as a coach, Brian worked alongside then UH defensive line coach Jeff Reinebold. During his two years working as a graduate assistant, the Warriors went 23-4 and appeared in the 2006 Hawai'i Bowl and the 2007 Sugar Bowl. The 2006 and 2007 seasons were the most successful back to back seasons in Hawai'i's storied football history. Brian’s contributions to the Warrior Football Team and his friendship with Reinebold were chronicled nationally in the 2008 ESPN E:60 news segment entitled "Heart of a Warrior." He is the only known person with cerebral palsy to ever have had an on field role in NCAA Division IA Football program. |

About Arjun: Dr. Arjun Aryal grew up in a remote village in Nepal as a goatherder. After his undergraduate degree in Nepal, Arjun continued his education at Cambridge University (United Kingdom) and then at Purdue University (Indiana, USA) for his graduate studies. He later received a PhD in Geophysics from the University of Hawaii at Manoa. Currently, Arjun is a researcher at UH Manoa and an instructor of Geology at UH-Honolulu Community College. Arjun serves as the Faculty Advisor for the Rotaract Club of UH Manoa with RC Honolulu Sunset’s President, Dr. James Ham. Right after the devastating 2015 earthquake in Nepal, Arjun initiated a program to support earthquake-orphaned kids to continue their education, with over 100 earthquake-orphaned kids currently receiving help to continue their education. Arjun continues to be actively involved in several charities throughout Hawaii, including the Education International Foundation in Hawaii and serves on the planning committee for the 2020 Oahu RYLA Camp. Recently, Arjun has started a charity to promote sustainable environment and education. Arjun is currently a member the Rotary Club of Honolulu Sunset and serves on D5000’s International Service team. He is the international contact (host) for Global Grant 1988399, "Chunder Drinking Water Project" in Nepal. This project aims to develop a drinking water supply in a rural village in Nepal. Arjun’s talk will include the importance of Global Grant 1988399 and the survival of Nepal’s indigenous communities. |
