Obake Neko (Ghost Cat) - Historical Fiction Novel

David Gillespie is a first-time author of an historical fiction novel, Obake Neko, that connects two stories fifty-five years apart: the secret mission of one of Japan’s WWII aircraft-carrier submarines and its links with current-day Hawaii. Gillespie will relate his research about the Sen Toku submarine and his writing and marketing efforts while dealing with brutal reviewers, crazy editors and the all-powerful Amazon. Pacific Historic Parks

Mission Statement: Pacific Historic Parks supports the USS Arizona Memorial and other Pacific historic locations through education and interpretive programs, research, preservation, and restoration, to perpetuate the memory of events and honor the people involved in these sites. Why Was PHP Established? PHP was founded in 1979 as the Arizona Memorial Museum Association and is a cooperating association with the National Park Service (NPS). A non-profit 501(C)(3), PHP also provides fund development activities and serves as the Friends Group for Pearl Harbor. Kalaupapa National Historical Park, Diamond Head State Monument, American Memorial Park (Saipan), and War in the Pacific National Historical Park (Guam). Our Oahu Rotary Youth Leadership Awards program is currently being planned. Rotarians Geoff Horvath (Oahu RYLA Coordinator) and Natasha Clarin (Yout Service Team Leader) will be sending out information on this important program soon. While we are trying to keep costs down, the cost per student is anticipated to be about $250. If you would like to help plan and help with this event please contact Geoff. More details to follow. The Rotary Club of Hickam Pearl Harbor is parterning with the RC of Honolulu Sunrise at Kahauiki Village on Thursday, February 7th for an incredible Service Project. In lieu of the Feb 7th meeting, we will be meeting at Kahauiki Village. We can count this as a meeting and a Community Service project. No planning is necessary, except for manpower that consists of serving dinner and fellowship with the residents. |

The HPH Board of Directors will be holding a weekend retreat for the 2019-20 Strategic Planning Meeting. We have a beach house on Kaneohe Marine Corps Base (base access is required, please see Allen for more details). All current and upcoming board members and committee chairs are asked to attend Saturday (May 4th) from 8am to 5pm with a BBQ in the evening, however all members are invited. What I learned walking 1,600 miles with Parkinson's Disease

Chris Dacus moved to Hawaii in 1993. Within a year he married a local girl and never looked back. Chris is an award winning landscape architect. He has worked for HDOT completing designs for Fort Weaver Road and Nimitz Highway. He also worked at the City & County working on high profile park projects at Thomas Square and Ala Moana Regional Park . He retired in 2016 due to Parkinson’s Disease. Chris now devoted his time to photography and improving the life of people with Parkinson’s.
